This beautiful rug was handwoven in the Berber town of Matmata, Tunisia using cotton and wool.
The colours and patterns are so detailed this is a completely unique, high quality heirloom to be loved and treated as part of the family fabric.
Measuring 250cm × 150cm it takes its name from the small seaside town of Sidi Bou Saeed, famed for its blue and white houses and doors.

A family business in the Berber region of Matmata, Abdallah was one of the first people we reached out to when we started The Wee Souk in 2021. After liaising with his niece via a Tunisian Artisans Facebook group, I received an abundance of images of the most beautiful 'margoum'. Made using wool, the patterns reflect the Berber culture of the women makers. Abdallah travels around the South of Tunisia, visiting small villages with big reputations for the best carpets in the region.
