The beautiful Makroudh Handwoven Wool Rug. Expertly women made in the south of Tunisia. This type of rug is called a Margoum and differs to kilim or Zarbia. A flat laying piece that is naturally stain resistant.
The colours and patterns are so detailed this is a completely unique, high quality heirloom to be loved and treated as part of the family fabric.

A family business in the Berber region of Matmata, Abdallah was one of the first people we reached out to when we started The Wee Souk in 2021. After liaising with his niece via a Tunisian Artisans Facebook group, I received an abundance of images of the most beautiful 'margoum'. Made using wool, the patterns reflect the Berber culture of the women makers. Abdallah travels around the South of Tunisia, visiting small villages with big reputations for the best carpets in the region.
